Sunglasses are available in different shapes and sizes. Fashionable and functional, sunglasses help to protect the eyes from the bright rays of the sun. With time the harsh sunlight can cause several eye problems and in certain cases even blindness.

Always opt for quality sunglasses as a pair of cheap glasses can prove to be detrimental in the long run.

Smooth surfaces like glass, water and snow can produce blinding glare which can be very harmful to the eyes. A special type of sunglass, polarized glasses cut the glare and helps the wearer to see properly. Polarized glasses are opted for by people who enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, different kinds of sports and driving.

Initially polarized glasses were worn only by boaters and fishermen. However, with awareness this trend has changed. Now more and more people are discovering the benefits of these specialized lenses. As people enjoy spending time outdoors a good pair of polarized glasses ensures the safety of their eyes.

Like normal sunglasses, Polarized glasses are available in a variety of lens colors and frame shapes. Polarized glasses may also vary from being mildly tinted and lightly polarized to being heavily tinted and highly polarized glasses. Brown and grays are the main lens colors used in polarized sunglasses.

Glares and other high intensity light are blocked out by a unique filter which is found in polarized sunglasses. Light waves normally travel in different direction. However on highly smooth surfaces like snow, glass or water these light waves align in  particular directions – like horizontal or vertical. The horizontally directed light has a dazzling effect on the eye and is commonly known as a glare.

The main advantage of wearing Polarized glasses over ordinary sunglasses is that these specialized spectacles blot out only the harmful glares. On the other hand a normal sunglass will filter the glare and reduce the surrounding visibility as well. This can be very dangerous to drivers.

Also go for a superior brand of polarized glasses while looking for added features like tinting, anti-reflection, anti scratch coating and UV protection.

Spending some money on a good pair of polarized glasses will ensure that you are protected from a variety of eye conditions including blindness.
